From the vibrant colors of Latin America to the lyricism of German Romanticism and the symphonic brilliance of nineteenth-century France, this program showcases three distinctive musical voices. Aaron Copland's Three Latin-American Sketches, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, with guest soloist Solomiya Ivakhiv, and Louise Farrenc's powerful Symphony No. 2.
Concert Facts:
Aaron Copland traveled extensively in Central and South America in the 1940s, finding new sources of musical inspiration.
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is one of the genre’s most popular works thanks to its innovative structure and passionate themes.Â
Louise Farrenc was the only woman who taught at the Paris Conservatory in the 19th century, and demanded equal pay after a decade of teaching.Â
